When being on autopilot as a working professional burns you out.

Are you a working professional feeling burnout? 3 ways in which being on autopilot can impact you.

Being on autopilot as a professional refers to going through the motions without much conscious thought or engagement in your work. It can happen when you’re not fully present or invested in what you’re doing, and it often occurs when you’re stuck in repetitive tasks or feeling a lack of challenge or fulfillment in your job. While it may seem like a comfortable and effortless way to get through the workday, being on autopilot can ultimately lead to burnout for several reasons:

Lack of engagement. When you’re on autopilot, you’re not actively engaging with your work or finding meaning in what you do. This can lead to a sense of detachment, boredom, and a lack of motivation. Over time, the lack of engagement can erode your passion and sense of purpose, contributing to burnout.

Emotional exhaustion. Going through the motions without genuine interest or enthusiasm can drain your emotional energy. When you’re not emotionally invested in your work, it becomes harder to manage stress, cope with challenges, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. The resulting emotional exhaustion can lead to burnout.

Reduced job satisfaction. When you’re on autopilot, you may not be fully utilizing your skills and abilities or tapping into your potential. This can create a sense of dissatisfaction and unfulfillment, as you’re not experiencing a sense of growth or accomplishment in your role. Over time, this diminished job satisfaction can contribute to burnout.

These circumstances can increase stress levels, create feelings of incompetence, and contribute to burnout as you feel overwhelmed by the consequences of your disengagement. Importantly as well, this can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. It is so incredibly important to prioritize self-care and establish healthy boundaries to maintain a healthy work life balance. Sure, easier said than done but with guidance and support from a therapist even more possible to create the road map you need!
